My CrossFit journey started in 2013 when a good friend of mine asked me if I wanted to try a new workout that was different than anything I had ever done. The WOD: “Murph”…. Not knowing anything about it, I jumped at the opportunity. When I crawled across the finish line an hour later, I was humbled beyond belief. While lying on the ground collecting myself,, my friend came over and laughingly said “welcome to CrossFit!” From that day forward I was hooked. Not until I tackled “Murph” I have never been pushed that hard for that long in my life. Like all the WODs it was tough, but the reward of knowing you pushed yourself to the limit and survived is the most gratifying feeling I’ve ever felt. Growing up and playing sports year round from an early age, fitness and wellness have always been at the forefront of my life. I played competitive sports through high school and college, and post-college competed at the pro level in wakeboarding and have competed in CrossFit the last 3 years, placing in the top 100 in the South Central region. I weight trained in a globo-gym most of my athletic career, but after doing CrossFit for 3 years, I am now healthier and in better shape than I was the past 12 years of the normal weight training at globo-gyms. I can say without a doubt that CrossFit has changed my life, and by being a coach at Eximo CrossFit, I hope to be able to instill the passion and drive for fitness that CrossFit has blessed me with. CrossFit is a journey of many steps; the hardest part is taking the first one!

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been infatuated with being active and getting outside, despite growing up with Houston humidity I played every sport I could in high school, played collegiate athletics, and tried to stay active after I graduated, but quickly got bored with globo-gyms and workout videos. Then I heard about CrossFit. The expense shocked me at first, but when I realized how much I was spending on things that didn’t add value to my life, I decided to make a shift and spend it on something that would. So, I started. At first I was intimidated, but after my first few workouts I was completely hooked. I realized I was looking forward to WODs, rearranging my entire schedule to ensure that time was squeezed in somewhere. And now that I’m 3 years into my CrossFit journey, I still can’t pinpoint my favorite part…the intensity, the challenge, personal accomplishments, making and meeting goals, the never-ending journey to improving and shaping myself, being the healthiest and fittest I’ve ever been in my life…or is it the amazing camaraderie, the undying support from other members, the feeling of family, community, friendship…I can’t pick just one. And it doesn’t stop in the box…I’m also gaining confidence to check goals off my bucket list: half marathon. Check. Tough Mudder. Check. Team Marathons, multiple other 5Ks, and mud runs. Check. These are the characteristics that embody Eximo Crossfit and make it such an enormous part of our lives. My hopes and goals as an owner and trainer are to welcome all of you into those scary doors and help you find that missing piece in your life, even if you don’t know it yet. That’s what crossfit has done for me, and I thought I was just going in to workout a few times a week…but it’s so much more than that. I challenge you to take that step…make the move into the unknown, give it everything you’ve got, and hold on tight…your journey is just beginning!

In 2012 I stumbled across a building in a shopping strip, next to a donut shop(no kidding), with the simple words “Crossfit” on it. After driving by it several times a week I finally decided to drop in and see what it was all about. The owner gave me a brief explanation and invited me to participate in what was called their Essentials class which went over some basic Crossfit core movements. The class was an hour long, using really light weight and covered things like the squat, deadlift, kettle bell swing and wall balls. Having spent several years working on being a professional eater, this very basic “essentials” class had me sore from head to toe for like 2 weeks!!! I decided I needed the soreness and to get my fat butt back in some sort of shape. I started off with just a few days a week and after about 90 days I was hooked and ready to add more days a week to my workout schedule. I’ve tried all the “chain gyms” and always ended up wasting months and months of membership dues. Crossfit is different. There is accountability, camaraderie, community, competition(with yourself or your buddy) and you have a personal coach/cheerleader/motivator at every class. After a year of doing Crossfit I decided I wanted to become a coach and help others achieve their highest fitness potential. I have been a Level 1 coach since 2013 and love every opportunity I get to work with members on their Crossfit journey. The Eximo Crossfit family is one of a kind and I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else! I have been a member at several boxes and this is where I am supposed to be!! My wife Rachel, my two oldest, and my now 65 year old mom are also members here with me at Eximo! They all love it and I couldn’t be more proud of them all! I tell everyone that asks about Crossfit, it’s not for everyone but ANYONE can do it! Come join us here at Eximo and experience the heights of where your fitness journey will take you!!

I had some friends of friends that did CrossFit and those girls scared me!  This group of girls had rock hard bodies and CrossFit was ALL they talked about.  Needless to say I had the same reservations you are probably having …CrossFit is for those “insane athletes that have nothing better to do than to workout 5 hours a day and flex their muscles.”  But for some reason I wanted what they had… the confidence, the focus, the passion, the deep friendships.   Sheepishly I took the plunge and emailed the closest CrossFit to my home and made myself a commitment to “just check it out.”   Well that my friends was the beginning of the most beautiful journey I have been on ever since!   I could not have been more wrong about what CrossFit was really all about!!   I am not going to lie, the first six months was so hard!  I learned really quick to check my ego at the door!  I learned it wasn’t all about body it was more about mind and spirit.  I learned that if I put my fitness and health as a first priority everything around me got better.  I became a better wife, a better mother, such a better leader and built friendships that will last a lifetime.  The greatest part…after 7 years …. I am still learning!  I am still challenged at being the best version of myself everyday … mind, body, spirit.  I am one of the “crazy” people that does the 5am class.  It isn’t because I am crazy … it is just when it fits into my crazy schedule and a time when I can put myself first before the world around me gets moving.  It works for me and my schedule and my family.

A few years ago I decided to take my journey in fitness further and become a coach.  It wasn’t about being “center stage” and a microphone (neither of those exist in CrossFit Coaching by the way!), it was about helping others see and believe they could be better.  I didn’t realize it at the time but my transformation had become an inspiration for other working moms.  Not only in the box setting but in my company and my community.   Over the years many have shared with me they were inspired by my success and it encouraged them to get serious about their health and now they have inspired others to do the same.   CrossFit has a ripple effect…I wanted what I saw in those “friends of friends” as they inspired me and the chain reaction continues.

There is absolutely nothing more rewarding to me in CrossFit than seeing a girl get their first pull-up or legit push-up.  I remember when I started that was my “end-goal”… be able to do a pull up, so I know exactly what it means to someone when they accomplish it.  I know you may be saying …. Well that still won’t ever be me.  But you are WRONG!  Put in the work and you will be shocked with what your “old mom or dad bod” can do!!!!

CROSSFIT = INSPIRATION, FRIENDSHIP, PERSONAL GROWTH  …  the bonus is the great physical attributes from intense exercise and healthy eating … but the INTERNAL RESULTS are far SUPERIOR to the EXTERIOR!

I’ve always been an active person since I can remember. I played team sports as a kid, playing baseball from the time I was 5 until about the age of 13. I’ve been fishing and hunting since I could practically walk, and wakeboarding has been, and still is, a huge part of my life today. That actually leads into the story of how I got into CrossFit. I started CrossFit in December of 2013, at the end of the wakeboard season for that year. I wanted to stay in shape over the winter while it was too cold to ride my board. My fellow wakeboarding friend and now owner of Eximo CrossFit, Brett, told me he had just started this thing called CrossFit not that long ago, and that he was really enjoying it. I was skeptical to try it at first because, although I had been active in my life, I had very little experience with lifting weights or being in any sort of gym for that matter. Brett Told me that I would be coached to do all the movements the correct way, and that I didn’t need to be worried about being inexperienced. Once I finally started, I became hooked very fast. I am a very competitive person by nature, almost to the point that it a problem, so when I started working out and was getting beat by everyone, I was chomping at the bit to get better. I started seeing results quicly, and that fueled me even more to keep pursuing CrossFit. I soon became obsessed with making myself better in every way I could, and watching results come from all the hard work I put in, and the rest is history.

Brett and his wife Kim decided that they wanted to start their own gym and I couldn’t have been more excited for it and lucky to be a part of it. They’ve created an amazing gym and have been lucky enough to obtain the members to match. I recommend CrossFit and expecially Eximo to anyone and everyone who has thought about trying it. Chances are, you’ll get hooked. How many place can you go to to get really fit, and also meet some great people, and make friendships that could last a lifetime?

A little more about me that everyone likes to point out a lot, is that I’m the baby of the group. By a considerable amount of years. We won’t discuss exact numbers to prevent anyone’s feelings from getting hurt! I am currently a student at the University of Houston getting my degree in Kinesiology: Exercise Science, and just a good ole boy from Pearland, Texas. I’m also an avid ping pong player, so if anyone is up to take a loss in a game of table tennis, just come let me know!

When I was younger, I was not the active/sports type kid. I wasn’t great when I tried at sports, and so avoided them for the most part. Once I got into college I wanted to get in better shape, but never really found the drive I needed in the classic style of “working out”. After my daughter was born in 2012, my wife tried to get me to go to a free Crossfit class. I avoided it, until she had me watch the 2013 Crossfit Games. One Event in that competition had me hooked, even before I had started. It was the Burden Run…
It was an insane show of cardio, strength, and just overall power being displayed by these men and women. I told my wife, “I wish I could do that..” she said, “do Crossfit”. The rest is history. But shortly after becoming a Crossfitter, I felt the need to help others find their drive with fitness, and got my Level 1 in 2014, and my Level 2 in 2017. I love getting to know new people, and helping them reach goals they never thought possible.

Texas born and raised!  I grew up in the small town of Louise, Texas and was involved in just about every sport the school had to offer.  After high school and college my main focus was in golf and running.  I was an avid runner, that was the only way I knew to “stay in shape.”

After getting married, to my wonderful husband, Regan, and having my daughter, Lily,  it was tough to get back into exercising, then I came across Crossfit in 2012. Not knowing much about it, I jumped right in and never looked back. Though I still love running, I love Crossfit even more!! It pushes me in ways I never thought possible, inside and outside of the gym; I have to keep up with two very active kiddos! When I’m not at the box, I want to be at the box; when I don’t workout, I think about working out! This place is my home and these people are my family!

I have been involved in sports and athletics since the age of 9 when I started gymnastics. I ended up going to University of Pennsylvania, where I was able to compete on the gymnastics team for all 4 years. Upon graduation, I felt an emptiness not being involved in sports anymore. I threw myself into the globo gym scene as I couldn’t come up with any other ideas of what to do to maintain my fitness level, but I always found it monotonous and boring. I needed something to spruce it up as I missed the competitive nature of gymnastics. I decided to try bodybuilding as that would give me a new goal. I ended up competing in Figure and Fitness competitions for the next couple years. It fulfilled a small emptiness, but I still felt something was missing. That one component was community. I missed training with a team. I missed my friends along side me. I missed the comaraderie. I needed something else as I just couldn’t force myself to go back to a globo gym. At that point of my life, crossfit had become the popular thing. Multiple friends encouraged me to try it out. In July of 2013, I finally took that leap and walked into a crossfit gym not knowing much about it. My life would never be the same. I was hooked immediately. Crossfit captures all the aspects I had loved about gymnastics. Crossfit is a workout, but it is so much more than that to me. It is a sport. It allows opportunities to learn new skills and improve the ones you might already have. It allows you to improve strength and cardiovascular fitness all at once. I actualy looked forward to going to the gym because I wanted to get better at crossift, not just workout to stay in shape. Best of all, crossfit offered the sense of comaraderie I had been missing since retiring from gymnastics. I met all kinds of new people who would become some of my closest friends. I was so into the sport, I decided to take my CrossFit Level 1 certification in 2014 and immediately began coaching. Four years later, I am still at it and loving every minute of it!!

I was introduced to CrossFit in 2015 by the owner of the company I was working for. We did home based care for the sick and elderly so I got a glimpse into what life was like at different stages and how life/health choices affected it. As much as I loved taking care of my clients I knew I needed to do something in my life, or I would end up needing someone to help me too. I was never very active or sporty growing up, and as an adult would only frequent the rec center every now and then. However I had no idea what I was doing. That’s when my friend invited me to watch her compete in an all-women’s competition to raise awareness for breast and ovarian cancer. I was in awe of all the amazing women. They were so strong and even though it was a competition they were all cheering each other on. I was blown away by what I was seeing and I wanted to be a part of it!
My husband had gone with me and was just as amazed as I was and wanted to try it too. He found a box right up the street from our house and signed us up for a free trial class. I don’t remember what the WOD was but I do remember doing 4 rounds and almost passing out. I sat on the curb in the back of the gym trying not to puke and once I got myself together I signed up for the first on ramp class they had! I was hooked!
After about a year I had gone to every extra clinic, every endurance class, every weight lifting class and had started focusing on my nutrition when the gym owner asked me if I was interested in coaching… ummm, heck yeah!!! Even though I was working 40+ hours a week at my other job I knew I wanted to do this. I got my L1 in January of 2017 and can’t learn enough about CrossFit and everything that goes along with it. Once I found out that my husband needed to relocate for work I knew I wanted to shift my career from caring for the sick to preventing them from getting sick in the first place. I couldn’t be more excited for this new journey in health and fitness with my new family at Eximo!

At Eximo CrossFit, our goal is to provide the most comprehensive, fun, and most importantly, SAFE environment for you and your family.
